FOLKDAYS Nº 16
The wearing and weaving of silk was, and still is today, an expression of Cambodia's deeply-rooted cultural and social traditions. Many of the festive costumes that are worn on special occasions by Khmer people are produced by the skilled weavers of the Takeo province, an area which has been at the heart of silk production for hundreds of years. Because of its cultural importance, the art of silk-weaving is still being passed down from generation to generation. Weavers, such as Ming Chem and Ming Taem from the Sorya Silk manufacture, who produce our silk scarves, learnt the art of silk-weaving from their mothers and are now passing it down to their own daughters.
