    TWA PEOPLE
    Rwanda

The Twa People are one of Rwandas oldest ethnic groups, which originally lived as hunters and gatherers in the mountain forests in associations with agricultural villages. As the forest areas shrank, some of the twa people resorted to pottery, a handicraft that was passed down from generation to generation. Our potters from Gatagara Cooperative are living in the southern province between Ruhango and Nyanza. Currently 12 men and one female accountant are working for the association. The clay that is used to manufacture their products is locally sourced.
