FOLKDAYS presents SEVAR Studios by Hila & Wana LimarAfter launching their jewellery label SEVAR Studios with a mini-collection in December 2020, the sisters Hila and Wana Limar introduce their new collection one year later. The second SEVAR Studios collection consists of eight pieces of jewellery that, through their names and design, pay special tribute to Afghanistan’s eventful history and its influential personalities.

This is the "Rabia" bangle. The jewellery piece is characterised by an organic finish that is decorated with four lapis lazuli stripes. These are not immediately visible but are placed at the back of the bangle. The bangle is available in one size and goes well with the "Soraya" earrings. Please note that the bangle is sold per piece.

Hila and Wana Limar explain the inspiration behind the name: "Rabia Balkhi was a Persian writer and poet who was born in the 9th century in what is now Afghanistan. She is considered the first woman to have written poetry in modern Farsi (Persian). In her literature, she addressed, among other things, her forbidden love for a slave, which, according to the stories, also led to her death. Through her courage to write openly about her feelings and to break down the class structures of the time, she became an icon in the fight for equity and justice in Afghanistan."

The collection’s designs were created by Hila Limar (architect & chairwoman of the board at the non-profit organisation Visions for Children e.V.) and Wana Limar (creative producer, presenter, Visions for Children e.V. ambassador and member of their PR team). The earrings were then handcrafted in the workshop of a goldsmith in Afghanistan's capital Kabul. Read more about the collaboration here.

With their jewellery label SEVAR Studios, the sisters Hila and Wana Limar, who were born in Afghanistan, also combine their shared affinity for artistic design with their educational, sustainable aspirations – and therefore connect their longstanding commitment to the educational sector, especially through the non-profit organisation Vision for Children e.V., with their love of art and aesthetics. Profits generated by SEVAR Studios will be invested in a goldsmith training programme for girls and young women in Kabul, which Visions for Children e.V. is planning for 2022.

Please note that each pair is handmade from natural materials. No earring is like the other, but a beautiful one of a kind. Therefore, variations to the photos may occur.
