Sita Scarf // black
FOLKDAYS Nº 109

Artisan: Color Silk

Country: Cambodia

Material: 100% silk

Size: 50cm x 185cm

The pattern and weaving technique of this beautiful scarf is called Ikat. In Ikat textiles, patterns are made by tie-dying the yarns used in the weft. The careful placement of the yarn then creates the pattern. Since every single silk thread has its specific tie-dye pattern which has to be placed at the right place when weaving, this technique is very complex and time consuming. Because Ikat weaving has a very long tradition in Cambodia, especially in the Takeo province, many of our weavers - such as Seaklor and Sreynom - are specialists in the weaving technique and manage to weave one silk Ikat scarf a day.
