When we visited Talleres Maya in El Alto for the first time, we were friendly greated by Teofilas dog Sammy. Teofila, her brother Sixto and her husband Mario are all excellent weavers and like working togther as a family. They belongs to the Aymara, one of the biggest indigenous groups in Bolivia are known for their special and very colorful knitwear that protects them from the cold winds of the Bolivian highlands. They use only the finest alpaca wool to be found in Bolivia. Most recently Teofila became the head of the family weaving group - a change that, according to the family members themselves, has been good for business.
