DAYAK PEOPLE
Indonesia

The native people of the island Borneo are called Dayak. It’s a loose term for over 200 different indigenous groups. Some of them still live the life of hunters and gatherers in the jungles of Borneo, others lead a modern life in the cities. Our artisans live in Gohong, a small village in the southern province Central Kalimantan. The village is especially known for it’s beautiful basket-work. Usually, the families partner up in groups to practice their handicraft. Our artisans Suphi and Yophi belong to such a group. Together with the rest of the family, mother and daughter are living in Gohong.
